Looking Forward to the Year Ahead
Aug 03, 2015 | Shuvankar Mishra
A relatively young department, the School of Management has been on a trajectory of steady growth through the years. With each passing year, it has witnessed changes and initiatives meant to bridge the gap that exists between classroom teaching and the modern day corporate scenario. In the last few months the department has seen a burst of activity, gearing up for what looks like a promising year ahead.
This year the School of Management has admitted thirty-five students for the post-graduate program in business administration. Currently, the department has twenty-four research scholars and one post-doctoral fellow. The areas of ongoing research include marketing, finance, HR and operations. The department also has four sponsored research projects under the guidance of Prof. Chandan Kumar Sahoo and Prof. Rajeev Kumar Panda. The sponsored projects include "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre" sponsored by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, "Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators" sponsored by Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises, "Assessing Healthcare Service Quality of Primary Health Centre (PHCs) in Rural Odisha" and " Impact of Human Resource Development Interventions on Organizational Effectiveness: An Empirical Investigation" sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research. The department is also planning to host a conference on “Business Strategies for Emerging India" in October of this year.
Towards the end of the last academic session, the department organised two seminars on "Competency Based Executive Performance Assessment in Manufacturing Units: An Empirical Analysis" and "Data Envelopment Analysis". Keeping in view the need for technical skills required to publish analytical papers, a workshop on LaTeX was conducted in the summers for research scholars.
The department received an impressive list of recruiters for the last academic year including TCS, CapitalVia, Jaro Education, HDFC, Naukri.com, Justdial.com, Progressive Media and Talent Corner. From what can be inferred from the placement trends, the coming year is going to be full of opportunities for the graduating batch.
Team MM wishes the School of Management a successful year ahead!
