One of the most coveted branches in NITR, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has already completed 16 years since it got introduced in 1999. As always, a fresh batch of engineering students look forward to being part of the esteemed CSE department.

The department of Computer Science and Engineering is expanding in terms of infrastructure, with new air-conditioned laboratories and classrooms being constructed at the back of the existing department building. This will enable the department to accommodate the increasing number of incoming graduates and undergraduates as well provide them with the best of facilities. However, the Head of the Department, Professor S.K. Rath believes that the department is short-staffed and there is an imminent need to recruit quality faculty across the board.

The National Workshop on Software Quality Assurance (NWSQA' 15) was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering on 25th July 2015 (Saturday) 9 A.M. at the Conference Hall of CSE Department. Prof. S.K. Sarangi, Director presided over the ceremony. The event also saw the presence of many eminent people. Prof. S. Bhattacharya, Director, NIT Surathkal was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Mr. Jagan Mantha, Senior Consultant, Wipro was invited to be the Guest of Honour of the function. The event was open to all undergraduate and graduate students from all batches.

The department of Computer Science was also involved in a number of projects this summer. The Medical Image Processing project primarily involved Masters and PhD students. The Autonomous Underwater Vehicle is another important project that aimed at building an autonomous robot equipped to travel underwater without requiring input from an operator. The UG students of the department were also working through the summers on various projects on algorithms and networking.

The department saw stellar placements, one of the highest, in the year 2014-15 in companies like Dell, HP, Microsoft, Futures First, Novell, Oracle, Samsung, SAP Labs, Snapdeal, DRDO, Sony India, Unisys, Yodlee, Infotech and TCS. Unlike other departments, even the Dual Degree students received high pay-package offers from various companies. There were also internships offered by several well-renowned MNCs.

Team MM wishes the Department of CSE and its students even greater success in the coming academic year.
