School of Management of NIT Rourkela organised a two-day national seminar on “Business Strategies for Emerging India” during 9th – 10th October, 2015. The seminar was inaugurated at the Bhubaneswar Behera Auditorium in the presence of Sri Animesh N. Sahay, CMD of Mahanadi Coal Fields Ltd., Sambalpur and chief guest for the occasion, Sri Siddhartha Das, Executive Vice President, UTI Mutual Fund, New Delhi and the Guest of Honour and Prof. Tridib Chakraborti, former professor IIM Calcutta and keynote speaker of the conference, Mr. Sahay. The welcome note was delivered by Prof. K.C Pati. He followed it up with a speech on the use of data science to strategize operations. Mr. Sahay’s address was a recounting of his experiences regarding changes that businesses face, day to day operations and the importance of formulating strategies to achieve sustainable success. He was followed by Mr. Das, who spoke about the role of inclusive development through upliftment of the marginal classes of the society via business development.  Head of the Department for the School of Management, Dr. Chandan Kumar Sahoo, also the convener of the conference, addressed the gathering to outline the objectives of the conference, which are in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda, the co-convener of the conference. The inauguration ended with the felicitation of Mr. A.N Sahay by honouring him with the “Distinguished Business Leader, 2015” by the School of Management, NIT Rourkela.

The conference was well attended by academics and corporate delegates from all across the country. The valedictory session was attended by Mr.Purna Chandra Panigrahi, Director(personnel), MCL, Sambalpur, who was the chief speaker for the occasion. His address was an inspiring elaboration of his thoughts on management, spirituality and the relation between the two. His speech ended with an appeal to the future leaders to take risks and learn from the mistakes. This was followed by a speech by Mr. Borendra Jee, MD, OCL Iron and Steel LTd., Rajgangpur, that highlighted the opportunities in the Indian economy, and contained his ideas on how to convert challenges in business into opportunities. The two-day event concluded with Mr. Purna Chandra Pnigrahi being honoured with “Excellent Employee Relations Leader, 2015” by the School of Management. The conference was sponsored by MCL, UTI Mutual Fund, OCL Iron and Steel Ltd., Canara Bank, SBI, IMDC and ICSSR.
