It was indeed a moment of sheer pride and delight, not just for Dr. Balasubramanian of Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering, but for the entire institute, when he was accorded with the Hiyoshi Young Leaf Award 2015. Hiyoshi Environmental awards have been established in 2008 to recognize the novel and innovative research in the field of environmental conservation and protection. In this connection, Hiyoshi Corporation, Japan offers environmental awards to Indian researchers who are doing outstanding contribution and progress in the scientific research and application in the areas of environmental conservation and protection. Dr. Balasubramanian had also successfully completed his training from Hiyoshi Corporation, Japan earlier. He has done extensive scientific research on treatment of volatile organic compound emissions from pharmaceutical industries using biotrickling filters, where they were evaluated under both steady and transient state conditions for the removal of single and multiple pollutants. Effects of halogenated solvents on the overall performance of biotrickling filters were also evaluated. Based on his work, he was granted the Hiyoshi Young Leaf Award 2015. He was felicitated with a memento, a certificate and cash award. 31st May 2015 was the deadline decided by the Hiyoshi Award Committee for receiving the application form from the applicants for the above. The selection was notified on 15th July 2015 and on August 2015; the awardees had to be present at the ceremony, held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Team MM congratulates him for his accomplishment.
