Named after the Padma Vibhushan Awardee and Indian aerospace engineer Prof. Satish Dhawan, SD Hall is unarguably a spectacle among all the residential Halls of NITR. The aesthetically pleasing layout and next to perfect furnishing add to its desirability among the boarders. The mess of SD Hall is regarded to be one of the best messes on the campus. Altogether making it a perfect abode.

The foundation stone for Satish Dhawan Hall of residence was laid long back, and the boarders have been flocking in since the previous academic year to inhabit the youngest residential hall, but it hadn’t witnessed any official inauguration until January 21, 2017. The inauguration ceremony was a brief one owing to the tight schedules, and other major ceremonies happening in the NITR premises and started at its pre-scheduled time of 08:30 AM.

Dr A. S. Kiran Kumar, a Padma Shree Awardee and the current Chairman of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) who was the chief guest of the event was greeted with a bouquet by the Ex- Dean PD along with the Director of NITR Prof. Animesh Biswas. Apart from them several other delegates like Prof. R. K. Patel (HMC Advisor), Prof. S. K. Patel (Registrar), Prof. M. R. Barik ( Chief Warden), Prof. D. R. K. Parhi (Dean Student Welfare), Prof. B. Majhi (Dean Academics), Prof. Suman Jha (Warden of SD Hall), Prof. Natraj Yedla (Assistant Warden of SD Hall) and Venkat Peri (Alumnus of NIT Rourkela) graced the occasion with their presence. Amidst a bustling crowd of a hundred and fifty students or more from SD Hall and various other Halls as well, the chief guest of the event unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbon marking the inauguration of the Hall. The fourth print issue of Monday Morning was also released on occasion. Refreshments were also distributed among the people present there.

The C Block of the hall is still under construction, and the entire hall will be handed over to HMC only after the completion of block C and the cycle stand. SD Hall has risen to be the most sought out Hall among the NITR populace, and hopefully, it would live up to the expectation of the masses.
