Start-ups have found a niche for themselves in the modern world where entrepreneurship and technology are synchronising to make a better tomorrow. Following this trend, last year in the second week of March the second youngest entrepreneurs in India and the youngest in the state of Odisha emerged from our institute, namely Abhijeet Sahoo and Sarada Prasad Sahoo. PennyIndia has become a common name and now transformed itself into Grabbucks Internet Private limited, the company. The team of two has now been extended to five with Biswajeet Kiro, Gaurav Kumar Panda and Abhipsa Panigrahi coming under the umbrella.

The site(www.pennyindia.com) has been giving back 95 % cash back from e-commerce sector by having tie up with giants like Flipkart, Amazon, PayTm, Snapdeal, Oyo, etc. which made it famous within no time. The team has been a part of the Indian affiliate summit at Gurgaon in the month of September and also actively participated in the Make in Odisha conclave held at Janta Maidan in Bhubaneswar in the month of December.

Recently, team PennyIndia decided to venture into a new market altogether. With the launch of ‘Ovotees’, OVO meaning ‘Original Version Of’. They have dived into the textile market by providing personalised t-shirts and hoodies. It is being done with machines like Screen printing machine and Sublimation printing. The inauguration of the event took place at TIIR auditorium on the 7th of March 2017, marking the celebration of a year of the successful venture of Penny India.

EVENT PROCEEDINGS

The event kick started at 6:15 pm with Abhipsa introducing the gathering about PennyIndia and how its journey has been in the past year. It was followed by Gaurav Panda and Deeksha Chaudhary taking over the podium and talking about the new venture, Ovotees, an online platform where one can get customizable T-shirts at reasonable prices.  A guiding video was shown on various features in the website of PennyIndia and how customers can use them to earn cash back while e-shopping from a myriad of brands through this website.

Following the video, Prof B. B. Biswal, Dean for Faculty Welfare congratulated the team for one successful year around the clock and shared his memory of how he appreciated the idea of online cash back when he was approached previous year and how he has seen PennyIndia grow within such a short time. Prof Rajeev Panda also expressed his heartiest gratitude to the team and explained about how startups require a lot of patience and perseverance to be built up from the ashes.

A series of promotional videos on Ovotees were then shown, explaining how it stands different from other T-shirt giants and how random people gave their views on the quality upon being shown to them. Abhijeet, Biswajeet and Sarada then shared their visions for the new venture. It was followed by the official launch of the T-shirts by Mr. R. K. Sinha, Faculty Advisor, E-Cell, Shailesh Agarwal, Chartered Accountant of the company and Prof. Raja Mohanty, Professor in Rourkela Institute of Management Studies (RIMS). The event ended on a good note with Abhipsa giving the vote of thanks to all the professors and students who attended the event amidst their busy schedules. The crowd present was sizeable but it fell way short of what the organisers had expected.

On asking Abhijeet about how his experience has been in the realm of startups, he quoted:

The past one year was a memorable one for us. We learnt the art of converting an idea into practicality. The idea which kept us driving was that we wanted to be the boss of ourselves and not depend on others. We wanted to be the youngest startup of Odisha and we are proud to say that we have achieved the goal.

He further continued:

Along with a service-based venture, we wanted to run a product-based venture too in parallel and hence Ovotees came into existence. The entire month of December was spent in Delhi and Ludhiana, procuring the machinery and learning the scientific process of T-shirt printing. We have planned to set up our own embroidery unit within 6 months and a manufacturing unit in the upcoming 2 years.

Bringing two startups under the cap and setting a new epitome in the startup world at such age is something which can be achieved due to sheer perseverance and tenacity only. Team MM congratulates the team for its first anniversary and wishes it good luck for the new venture and hopes that it would bring more laurels to it and the institute.
