Catering to the present needs of the students, Central Library, NIT Rourkela, and Elsevier India jointly organized an Author Workshop on Scholarly Publishing and eBook Awareness Program on 23 August 2017, in B.Behra Auditorium. The workshop was organized as a tribute to Padmashri Dr.S.R. Ranganathan known as a Father of Library Science on his 125th birthday and on the occasion of National Librarian’s Day Celebration, 2017. Siyali Ramamrita Ranganathan was a mathematician and librarian from India who is known for his fundamental thinking in library science, documentation and information sciences.  The workshop aimed to create awareness on scholarly publishing and eBook platform for students, faculties and research scholars from Rourkela.

The inauguration started at 9:30 a.m by inviting the dignitaries on the dais for lighting the lamp and accolading Padmashri Dr.S.R.Ranganathan followed by the welcome speech of HOD, BPCL,  Dr. Bhojaraju Gunjal. This was followed by the welcome addresses of dignitaries comprising PIC, BPCL Prof.K.P.Maity, Honourable Director Prof.Animesh Biswas and Guest Speaker Dr. Sangeeta Mehta, Director (South Asia) of Elsevier. The inauguration came to an end by 10:30 a.m with a vote of thanks and group photograph.

The workshop re-commenced with Dr. Sangeeta Mehta’s discussion over topics like How to get published, Peer Review, Get noticed, Plagiarism and Elsevier Publishing Campus with help of power point presentations. She retrospected about various prospects and detailed course of action one goes through and the troubles faced during research paper approvals as well as in other eBook platforms. The auditorium was packed with over 400 participants consisting of faculty, research scholars, students and other invited library professionals from Rourkela. This workshop is 15th in the series of User Awareness Workshop (UAW) conducted by Biju Patnaik Central Library which has been recurrently conducting programs on various subjects to shore up the academic and research activities of the NITR fraternity.

At the end of the two-hour workshop, Dr.Sangeeta took questions from the inquisitive audience and clarified their queries. The participants learnt some crucial points about the publication of research paper and it imparted a velocity to the upcoming publications of our Institute.
