Rotary: Make a difference.

Catering to this motto, the Rotary Club of Rourkela Steel City put forth a significant step to create a difference in the lives of blind people. On 8  September, 2017 Rotary Club organized an ‘Eye Donation Awareness Workshop’ at the Bhubaneswar Behera Auditorium (BBA) of NIT Rourkela. The methodical organization of this workshop was brought into the picture by the Rotaract Club of NIT Rourkela.

With 100 enthusiastic people gracing the occasion, the workshop was declared open by the President of the Rotary Club, Rotarian Archana Mohanty. The interest of the audience elevated to a higher level when everyone stood out of respect to sing the national anthem of our nation. After lightening of the lamp by Director in charge, NIT Rourkela, Professor B.C Roy and other dignitaries, the president of the club elaborated about some of the noteworthy initiatives of the club. The first phase of the workshop proceeded with Rotarian Anjana Mehta introducing the chief speaker of the occasion Dr. B.B Rao and the guest of honor, Dr. Biswajit Mohapatra.

The workshop turned more informative with the chief speaker presenting his views about eye donation. His presentation consisted of topics like: causes and cure of corneal blindness, procedures of eye-donation, a brief about eye-bank facility and the presentation also included a video unleashing the surgical process of eye-donation. Dr. B.B Rao also introduced the manager and members of ‘Ispat Drushti Daan Eye bank’ of Ispat General Hospital (IGH), Rourkela. This was followed by an interactive session where the students enquired the honourable chief speaker about various aspects of eye-donation.
