With the advent of the spring semester, Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL) organized the Annual Grand Book Fair (AGBF) – 2018 from January 4-6, 2018 to enrich the library collections and to assist the faculty, research scholars, students and others in procuring books.
The book fair was inaugurated by, Prof. K.K Mahapatra, the Dean(Academics) at 9:00 AM on 4th January 2018. He delivered a small speech where he spoke about metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata where books of all types are easily accessible whereas procuring good quality books and recently published research materials is comparatively tough in Rourkela. Hence, this book fair was basically organised to cater to the needs of the students and the faculties alike and make books of all varieties available to them. The three days’ event then kick-started with the students and faculties and even school children coming in huge numbers to purchase books of their choices and requirements. A total of 33 stalls were put up on the Institute NCC Ground. Publishers/vendors from all over the country (New Delhi, Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bhubaneshwar, Ghaziabad, Rourkela) had come to display a large number of titles in the fields of Engineering, Science and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Planning and Architecture, and Management. The participants also displayed infotainment books including the children books, novels and biographies since the other local institutions & colleges had also been invited to the Book Fair for the procurement of books for their libraries.
The timings of the fair were 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (Morning Slot) and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Evening Slot) and hence, students with hectic schedules also found ample time to visit the fair and buy their books. The NCC ground was well lit and decorated for the event and proper arrangement of drinking water for the public was made.
The BPCL was yet again efficacious in organising the book fair which ultimately quenched the thirst of the knowledge seekers who relentlessly purchased books according to their desires. With the discount rate for purchasing books during the Book Fair being 25% for BPCL and 20% for faculty and students.
Team Monday Morning congratulates the organizing committee for the successful conduction of the event and wishes them all the best for the future.
