The spring is that phase of the year when nature looks more charming than ever. With such a sereneful campus, the spring at NIT Rourkela boasts of many picturesque moments but for all the sports enthusiasts on the campus, it is the time when they train harder than ever and prepare themselves to compete in the various competitions that test their strength and perseverance.

The institute organized its 56th Annual Athletic Meet on 11th and 12th February 2018 at the Dilip Tirkey Stadium(DTS). With as many as 30  events for both boys and girls lined up, the weekend proved to be one of the most thrilling ones the sportsmen ever had.

The Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the two-day long event kicked off with the initiation of the parade by the athletes and the students from the far side of the track. Keeping the respective hall of residences’ flags high and showing professional discipline all along the way, the group marched all around the ground finally to line up in front of the guests of honour in the form of a semicircle, following which the President (Student Activity Centre), Prof. S. Chakraverty and the Dean (SW), Prof. S. Panigrahi addressed the athletes. Highlighting the importance of athletics in one’s daily life, the guests cheered the crowd up. This was followed by the official opening of the sports meet where the Director (In-charge), Prof. Anup Panda declared the meet to be open. After the successful hoisting of the institute flag by the Director, the Institute captain, Mahaveer then took the oath on behalf of all the athletes to ensure a fair play during the events and thus marked the beginning of the 56th athletic meet.
