The Spic Macay Chapter of NITR and SAC organized a cultural event by the world-renowned Sarod Maestro Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, a pioneer of Indian slide guitar and disciple of Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta on 23rd March 2018 in BBA.

The event was scheduled to start at 7 PM but commenced at around 7:15 PM as soon as honorable Director Prof. Animesh Biswas and other dignitaries arrived. After the inauguration of the event, Prof. Biswas, Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya, Prof. Snehashish Chakraverty, President of SAC and Prof. Seemita Mohanty, Faculty Advisor of Spic Macay went on the stage and graced the occasion by lighting the holy lamp. The cultural program was hosted by Praisy Satpal and Samyak Yadav.

After this, the stage was taken up by Pandit Bhattacharya who started the musical evening by briefly introducing himself and detailing his music. He began the musical performance by playing an evening raga of the Kafi thaat. Then he went on to play the Bahar raga which is rendered to spring season and is played during the night. He moved his fingers in rhythm with the strings of his Sarod and captivated the audience with his fast alterations of low and high scale notes. Pt. Bhattacharya was accompanied by Shri Jyotirmayee Chowdhary who synchronized the beats of his tabla with the chords of Sarod and made the auditorium resonate with melodious tunes.

The organizing team did not face much problem and the cultural event was conducted quite smoothly. After an enthralling evening, the event concluded at around 9 PM. One of the coordinators of the event Abhishek Gaurav quoted,

The event was quite successful as we saw quite a good number of people turning up for the program. Moreover, the institute was quite supportive and helped us to a great extent in organizing the event.

Team MM congratulates the club for hosting a wonderful evening and wishes the team luck for organizing such cultural events in future to keep the zeal for classical music alive amongst the NITR populace.
