Kudos for the Karate Kids

NITR-MAC is the club for the martial arts aficionados of the institute. It is registered under the Sports and Games Society of NIT Rourkela.

A team of 5 members from NITR-MAC were selected for the IGKA East India Karate Championship 2014 to represent the institute in the prestigious completion. They have achieved their maiden victory, bringing laurels for the institute. Of the four participants, two bagged prizes, making Odisha proud.

The championship was held on 7th December 2014 at Paradip, Odisha. Participants from the eastern states of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar represented their respective states.

For the first, a team from NIT Rourkela has participated in any zonal level martial arts competition. The team comprised of Ashis Kumar (third year B.Tech, Department of Chemical Engineering), Eppa Rahu (second year, M.Tech, Department of Computer Science), Rishabh Gautam (third year, Department of Mechanical Engineering) and Rohit Kumar (third year, Department of Electrical Engineering).

Of these students, Ashis Kumar captured the gold medal in Kata event and Eppa Rahul bagged the bronze medal in the same event. The other members of the team performed impressively, but missed the medals by a whisker.  

The club founder and President, Swostik Rout is quite happy with the performance of the members and hopes to put up even better show next time and participate in the nationals.
