A Thunderous Welcome

The 4th of September saw a wonderful gathering of the students of the Department of Electrical Engineering on the occasion of department freshers’ celebration. A crowd of over 250 students ranging from timid freshmen to nostalgic final years gathered in LA-204. The decorations for the event had started back in the afternoon around 5 p.m. The sophomores set up the sound systems, decorated the walls with frills and balloons and also decorated the board. The freshmen started pouring in from 6 in the evening.

Giving the Right Amount of Spark

One of the oldest departments of NIT Rourkela, the Department of Electrical Engineering is now bustling with another new batch of 90 curious minds who have got themselves enrolled in various B.Tech and Dual Degree programmes offered by the department. As another group of sophomores start with their department classes, work in the Electrical Sciences building is in full swing. The laboratories have been completely refurbished and furnished with the latest and upgraded apparatus for the convenience and benefit of the students. Scarcity of water, however, continues to be a problem for those dwelling there. The placement scenario in the department, though, managed to live up to the expectations with a total of 69 offers being made for the batch of 2014. The faculty and students of the department are beaming with happiness after becoming one of the few departments of NIT Rourkela to attain full accreditation from NAAC following the NBA visit earlier this year.Adding to this joy was the news of the Head of the Department, Prof. A. K. Pandagetting elevated to the status of Fellow of the prestigious Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), UK.
