NITR hosted Innovation Carnival, an initiative by FTBI (Foundation for Technology Business and incubation), a section 8 company supported by Department of Science and Technology, Govt.of India on 10th and 11th of November. The event drew a huge number of participants from multiple walks of life, including school students and industrialists who assembled at the TIIR building to display their innovation. The carnival also featured a series of satellite events, including Innovation Exhibition, Food Panel Discussion, Start-Up hunt among others.

In the Innovation exhibition for schools, students exhibited some exceptional projects, which were duly appreciated by the audience. The exhibition saw an amalgamation of versatile projects from various spheres of Science and Technology. The event witnessed participants from all over the state. Around 23 teams presented their projects.

Students in class 8th and above were eligible to participate in the exhibition. There were a few projects which held the potential to solve real-life problems. To name a few, there was a project on “Promession – a new technology which can be used to dispose of a dead body; there was another which exhibited an innovative method to correct back pain disorder among people.

Asking one of the participants Swastik Panda from DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, he said

I feel very privileged to be a part of this event. Initially when I reached NIT, Rourkela I was quite nervous wondering how can I compete with so many students. Yet I had hopes that my project will stand out from the crowd as I have been working on it for the past two years. The prize money or the certification doesn’t matter to me, what truly counts is the exposure that I gained after coming here.

On a similar note, another event called the Industrial Innovation Exhibition was taking place at the same time. The event witnessed a participation of 11 teams from Steel Authority of India Limited, Rourkela Steel Plant. The participants were invited from the circle of Quality Forum of India. This gave the industry experts an opportunity to showcase multiple technologies, products, and designs. The teams which participated from Rourkela Steel Plant were Milan, Udaya, Dynamic, Vazra, Uddan, Naba Nirmaan, Samadhan, Black Diamond, Parivartan, Karmayogi and Samruddhi.

The exhibition was followed by team-presentations, which basically demonstrated projects and initiatives which could help mankind overcome the very issues of conflict with nature and would pave way for sustainable development.  Mr.Pradhan from Rourkela Steel Plant, one of the participants in the Industrial Innovation Exhibition, was quoted as saying:

Innovation carnival is happening for the first time. We are very glad to be a part of it. It gives us a chance to showcase our products and designs. I hope this initiative continues to flourish over the years and we get a chance to participate every year.

Overall the event was smoothly organized. The events began on time at 9 AM in the morning and continued till the end of the afternoon. The participants were very enthusiastic and were eager to prove their mettle. In the end, the results were declared and the 1st prize was bagged by Pratyush Kumar Das from Ispat English Medium School, Rourkela and the 2nd prize was bagged by Swastik Panda from DAV Public School,  Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar. The event came to an end with the announcement of the results. Team MM congratulates the participants and wishes them luck for their future endeavours.
