45th Engineers’ Day

With much fervor and gaiety, the Rourkela Chapter of NIT Rourkela Alumni Association (NITRAA), celebrated the 45th National Engineers’ Day on 15th of September, 2012 at Civic Center, Sector-19, Rourkela.
Observed every year to commemorate the birth centenary of legendary engineer of India, M. Visvesvaraya, this year the successful organization of “Jnanagni’12” added yet another glorious feat to the feathers of NITRAA-Rourkela Chapter. The techno-cultural confluence was observed in the august presence of Chief Guest Shri S. C. Das, Ex ED (Work), RSP and present President of NITRAA, Key Note Speaker Dr. S. K. Gon Choudhury, internationally acclaimed renewable energy expert and Guest of Honour Dr. K. C. Patra, from NIT, Rourkela.
A paper presentation competition was being held on with a burning theme, “Appropriate Climate Responsive Technologies for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development”, in which as many as 13 teams participated from all over Odisha, including 7 teams from NIT Rourkela itself. The winning team hailed from NIT Rourkela that included Mr. Swarup Sahu, Mr. Subhransu Sekhar Mohapatra and Mr. Ishan K. Sarangi. The champion team was given cash prizes of Rs.15,000/- along with certificates, trophies and mementoes. The first and second runners’ up teams were hailed from ABIT, Cuttack who were felicited with Rs. 9,000/- and Rs. 6,000/- of cash prize along with trophies, certificates and mementoes. Mr. R. P. Gupta, CMD, Shiva Cement (Alumnus NITRkl, 1971 batch), Mr. G. S. Aggarwal, an entrepreneur from Rajgangpur, Rourkela and Mr. P. K. Prusty, Senior Scientist, Dept. of Forest and Environment, Govt. of Odisha formed the judgment panel of the competition. 
The ceremonious extravaganza of the festival started with a musical presentation by famous TV artist Ms. Ashalata Sarangi and her group followed by life sketch of M. Visvesvaraya in sand animation by a renowned group of sand artist from Puri.
The welcome address was given by Mr. R. P. Panda (Chairman, NITRAA- Rourkela Chapter). He was followed by key note speaker Mr. S. P. Gon Choudhury and guest of honour Dr. K. C. Patra, NIT Rourkela. The colorful evening paying homage to the valedictory ceremony was addressed by chief guest Mr. S. C. Das and Mr. Biswajit Mishra (General Secy, NITRAA- Rourkela Chapter). The celebration concluded with a jubilant sand animation with a complementing global theme “Go Green” and a marvelous Odissi dance presentation by Mr. Debashis Pattanaik and his group. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Biswajit Mishra.
With the success of the program, NITRAA Rourkela Chapter again repeated its promise to bring a harmonious technological and cultural interaction not only between the vast community of NIT Rourkela’s alumni, but also creating a progressive heritage of student-senior relation of respect and learning. Team MM wishes NITRAA a colorful and more interactive future ahead.
