Sparkling the department: SPARK FEST
Starting a new trend within NITR this week was the electrical engineering department which launched the first ever departmental fest- SPARK FEST. With Prof A.K. Panda, HOD EE dept as the PIC (Professor in Charge) and chief coordinators Deepak Bhardwaj and Manas Mishra, the fest was an unforgettable event. The inauguration ceremony was held on 5th of April at PPA in the presence of Prof. P.C. Panda, Prof. Sushmita Das and Prof. K.B. Mohanty who were the guests of honour for the ceremony. The initiative was appreciated by all the professors and they said that such fests within the department should be encouraged to promote interest in the subjects.

Pushing The Boundaries
As one of the elite technical institutions of the country, NITR has added yet another feather to its cap. It is going to host the first ever National Conference on Power Electronics Systems and Applications, on March 16th-17th, 2013. Sponsored by IEEE, Kolkata Section, and being handled by the able professors of Electrical Engineering Department, NITR, it already looks to go down as a huge success, with 179 research papers being submitted, and 89 accepted based on peer review process.

A Seminar on Satellite Navigation
A seminar on Satellite Navigation was held in the Electrical Department in the UG Seminar Hall on Friday, February 08, 2013. Dr. Rajat Acharya, Scientist, Space Applications Centre, ISRO was the narrator on the occasion. The seminar was attended by the HOD Prof. A. K. Panda and also all the other senior professors of the department.

A Busy Winter
Putting the name of NITR more firmly on the national map as a successful hub for talented minds, the Electrical Department has bagged new honors last winter. Dr. Y. Suresh, earned his Ph. D. this winter, and the degree was presented to him by Prof. Bhim Singh, IIT Delhi, and also a fellow of the highly prestigious IEEE. Joining the ranks of successes is also Ms. Sushree Pattanaik, who was awarded her M. Tech. in Research, after being put through a rigorous evaluation by Prof. Srinivas Rao, NIT Warangal.
