As per the guidelines of NPIU, there is a provision in TEQIP-II for improving the skills of weak students by providing academic support to them. For this, NITR has started special classes for improving their skills by experts from inside & outside of the Institute, in the subject areas as well as in fundamental subjects such as English, Mathematics and Communication skills. These classes are being held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm everyday.
All the B.Tech 1st year students those who have ‘F’ grade in Mathematics (1st sem) or SGPA below 6.00 and the 2nd year B.Tech students having CGPA (3rd Sem) below 6.00 are advised to register their names in their respective departments. The classes have already started from 26th March at 5:30pm in Computer Centre (Ground Floor). For more information, one may check webmail.
It may be noted that this is a good initiative by the Institute on the lines of the preparatory courses which are organized by the IITs, though this is something completely different. The number of failures in Mathematics is indeed worrying and to make the basic concepts clear, these classes are being organized. These classes will help clear the concepts of those whose fundamentals are weak in Mathematics and the students who don’t have a strong English background. Bagging a good placement has everything to do with English and communication skills and this step, if successful, would go a long way in ensuring better placements in future. Though it is also to be seen how successful these classes actually are, with our current professors being unable to make the kind of impact these students need.
