“Laila” came and went away but NITR is still coping with the damage done by it. Either due to the magnitude of the storm or the complacent attitude of our Hall management authorities, but most of the LAN ports in M.V. Hall of Residence are lying redundant even as we move into the second month of the new session. The students have lodged their complaints in the Central Computing Laboratory but to no avail. And to add to their problems, many of the rooms in M.V. Hall have almost zero Wi-Fi connectivity.
According to the officials at CCL, the switches need to be replaced as they were damaged in a thunderstorm during the summer vacation. But the amount of time being taken to replace these switches is beyond anything defined by logic. The basic purpose of digitalizing all the resources is defeated if each students is not provided with a simple net connection. In an institute of the stature of NIT Rourkela, does the administration expect the students to run around in search of cyber cafes for accessing internet or visit the CCL daily to see if their complaints are being attended to. It’s up to the administration now, to see to it that the students are in an institute of national repute and not some ‘typical Government Office’ where stuffs work with, well you all know what.
