Mr. Debashish Das, alumnus of the 2007 batch, B. Tech, Mechanical Engineering, was on campus on Tuesday, 11th January, 2012. Presently pursuing M.S. at University of Illinois, Chicago, USA, Mr. Das presented a seminar on “Research and Higher Studies”. Around 80students and a few faculty members attended the talk.
He informed the students about the requirements for admission to graduate courses and the procedure of application. He also shared useful tips on preparing for examinations like GRE and TOEFL. Highlighting the lessons he learnt at Illinois, he pointed out many irrelevant myths that are prevalent among students regarding M.S. and Ph.D. Overall, the seminar gave an insight on studies after graduation and proved helpful to those aspiring to continue with academia.
This was the second seminar from an alumnus in a week, after Dr. Sandip DasVerma (Mechanical Engineering, batch of 1965) gave a seminar on Webinars, two days before this. Professor In-Charge for Institute Seminars, Dr. Shishir Kumar Sahu informed Monday Morning that many more such seminars could be expected in the near future.
