Placement Co-ordinators Declared
After about a month of toils and scrutiny, the students who will be responsible for the handling of the placement scenario of their respective branches have been chosen and named. 33 applicants had been shortlisted for all the available slots for the placement co-ordinators, out of which 16 have been finalised. The shortlisted candidates had been closely monitored throughout their probation period in accordance with the various tasks that they had been assigned to complete during their probation. The contenders were interviewed by the present placement co-ordinators and based on the overall feedback from all concerned, the final list has been compiled and is as follows:

Ceramics Canvassed
With the commencement of the termination of this academic year, the universally crucial apprehensions about internships, scopes and placements have become all the more conspicuous. Looking to alleviate these concerns, team MM approached Prof. Himadri Shekhar Maiti, a visiting professor in the Ceramic Engineering Department since the past two years and a luminary personage, who has served under numerous titles at elite establishments. Lamenting the lack of proper enthusiasm in the research areas of Ceramic Engineering, Prof. Maiti shared quite a number of valuable insights as regards to the field which he mentors and its multiple prospects. Going Global With Erasmus Mundus
Taking the institute’s international connects to a whole new level, eight students from NITR have bagged the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarships and now its Europe calling! Six students will be going to the neighbouring continent to study with a scholarship that covers all expenses of the student including accommodation, air fare, tuition fees, etc. The Europe-bound lucky few are:
Chithra Reghuvaran (EC) – Czech Technical University, Czech Republic
Rama Krishna Gottipati (CH) – University of de Sevilla, Spain
Pradipta Ranjan Rauta (LS) – Instituoto Superio Tecnico, Portugal
Hirak Jyoti Kashyap (CS) – Instituto Superio Tecnico, Portugal
Jyoti Prakash Meher (EC) – Tallinna Tehnikaulikool, Estonia
Sujasha Gupta (MM) – Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France
While Rama Krishna Gottipati has been selected for a 6 months Post Doctorate degree, Sujasha Gupta has been chosen for a full degree masters course and the rest have been selected for a ten month exchange program. Apart from the named six, ten other students are on the waiting list for the scholarships. The second cohort of the Erasmus Mundus scholarships will be declared on June 3rd, 2013. The students have been chosen under Heritage, an India-Europe Erasmus Mundus partnership that offered scholarships to NIT Rourkela students and other Indian partners to study in the European partner universities. Erasmus Mundus aims to enhance quality in higher education through scholarships and academic cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world.
Two new programs, Heritage Plus and Namaste, which also come under the Erasmus Mundus, are in the pipeline to be launched shortly in the institute this year.

‘GATE’ of Fortune!
The GATE Results, declared on March 15, not only were a mere display of the students’ performance in their respective exams, but in fact was a determining factor of many students’ future. Some came out with flying colors extending their future fraught with empyrean glory, while some were in profuse disappointments.
