The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of NIT-R is well known for its seminars and conferences. It conducts workshops which not only help students, but also allow faculties and industry personnel to hone their technical skills. This summer was no different when they organised a short term course on Design and Simulation of Antennas and Microwave devices from 1 st -8 th June, 2016. MTech. students, PhD scholars and faculties from several institutes of the nation stepped at NIT-R to avail this opportunity to get an exposure in the field of Microwave and antennas.

Prof. S. K. Behera and Prof. S. Maity of the ECE department coordinated the eight daylong event which had participation from reputed institutes of the nation. They delivered daily lectures which gave participants an insight into this novel area and also provided them the requisite theoretical knowledge before demonstrating the concepts practically through simulation lab and measurement techniques. Guest faculties from various universities including BITS, Pilani (Hyderabad campus) and SAMEER, Kolkata were also invited to share their work experience with the audience. The participants also got an opportunity to practice the licensed ANSYS EM software which is usable in very few institutes of the nation.

The main motive of this course was to train students and professionals to take up, microwave, antenna and RF communication as a career option in academic and industry. The registration fee for this event was INR 5000 per head for students and INR 7000 per head for faculties and industry personnel. The participants were also provided with accommodation at the NITR halls of residence. The success of this short-term course has given the department a new boost and they have planned to organise similar workshops in the upcoming vacations.
