The Food Bonanza!

The aroma of delicious food being cooked had engulfed the entire Dilip Tirkey Stadium. On taking a sneak peek, we encountered a delightful sight of delectable food being cooked! On inching closer to the area, we sensed a tense atmosphere of competition. Yes, we had visited Bon Appetit, the culinary skill showcasing competition, organized by the Chef’s Club, on the occasion of their foundation day, where 9 teams competed to become the Masterchef NITR!

The rules of the event stated that the competing teams must give a list of the ingredients the day before. The food had to be cooked on the stove provided by the club. All the nine teams of three members each, geared up for the competition. Onions were chopped finely, the spices were gathered, and oil was poured on the stove and voila! The competition started. 

The food prepared by the teams ranged from chicken makhani to pasta and egg rolls, each prepared with equal competency. The event was a bit marred by the ever-getting-put-out flames of the stoves which irked many contestants. Although the number of utensils was less than the required number, the teams showed great sense of healthy competition by sharing them. The judging criteria had heavy emphasis on the taste, appearance as well as the method of preparation.  

The event was well organized, ignoring minor glitches like delay in schedule and insufficient equipment. Nevertheless, it was a success with the vegetarian dishes carrying away all the laurels.
