THE FEST OF ROURKELA: RHAPSODY 2K14

With an exceptionally high participation of 684 students from around 15 schools all over Rourkela, this year’s Rhapsody can be considered to be one of the best as the LEOs would like to put it. Sponsored by Moksha, Radhika Regency, Zever and many others, this year’s inter-school fest of Rourkela, organised by the LEO Club of NITR stood apart from the previous years. Not only with the big names for sponsors, the addition of two new events, MUN and Science Exhibition made it grand by fetching a commendable number of participants. The high enthusiasm among the school students was prominent when they started to arrive at the registration desk in front of the LA as early as 6:30 am in the morning, one hour prior to the scheduled time.

The events of spell-bee, MUN, singing and painting were scheduled in the morning hours. Spell-bee started off with the senior group and continued to end with the group of juniors. In both the sections, the participation was commendable. There was a preliminary selection round, where top 20 participants were selected for the finals that included the real test of spellings. No matter how tough the spellings were, some of them made it look too easy setting the standard quite high. Singing and painting fetched the expected participation and the events went on smoothly. MUN being the maiden attempt of the Leos, it was difficult to earn a good participation from the schools in a very short notice. DPS was adjudged the winner. After all, the lunch was enjoyed by everyone before the commencement of the second innings of the day.

It was time for the great events to be held during the second half. Apart from solo dance, the quiz competition stole the show with a record number of students participating, especially the senior quiz. Around 60 teams consisting of more than 170 participants, tested their mettle in the competition. The quiz started with the prelims consisting of 20 questions and the top 6 teams were selected for the finals. Due to a huge delay of more than 2 hours, the finals was cut short to only 3 rounds. The zest among the students for winning the quiz was worth noticing as none of them left an inch for their fellow competitors resulting in a tie for the third place. Finally, St. Pauls was declared third in a tie-breaker. On the other hand, elocution also went on smoothly, and it ended within the stipulated time.

After the completion of all these events, everyone headed towards BBA, for the final event of Group Dance. The event was worth christening the flagship event when it attracted an audience occupying the whole of BBA from different fields. The audience not only included the students and a few of their parents, but also some ex-students of the schools or some professors of NITR and even the NITR junta as well.

Group dance was followed by prize distribution ceremony. Prof. R.K. Biswal was invited as the chief guest. His words were really inspiring for the students. Among the many schools that included, MGM, Sai Valley, Deepika and many others, it was St. Pauls and DPS that snatched away the runners-up and champion’s trophy respectively from their much awaited fest Rhapsody.

This project of the LEOs can be stated as one of their biggest success and they would like to roll in the same terms in their future as well. The members hope that this feat will boost up their performance to work for the betterment of the society in the many upcoming projects. Team MM wishes the LEOs, all the very best for their future endeavours.
