Status Update: Golden Jubilee Building

After a much needed winter break, the campus of NITR is yet again filled with students buzzing around. And one can see that numerous developments in the upcoming constructions have taken place during this time. The construction of the much awaited Golden Jubilee building is under full swing to the delight of all the personnel in the campus.

Team MM contacted the man behind this massive construction, Mr. Khokan Sampui to find out the progress. He was glad to say that the construction is going as per schedule without any hiccups. At the time of reporting, the workers had completed up to the third floor which includes the car parking at the basement along with the first two floors of the administrative block. He told MM that he expects the construction to reach up to 7th floor by April end or mid-week of May. The finishing work of the completed floors is also going on side by side along with the construction so that there is no delay.

His team of 10 engineers and around 400 construction workers are working daily from 8am to 8pm all seven days of the week to meet the schedule of this project. There are some days the workers go on working until 10pm – 12am also. For everyone wondering about the tall crane that we can see, is a “Power Crane” which Mr. Khokan believes is going to speed things up as moving construction materials will be swift. Earlier the workers used to carry the materials around.

The Golden Jubilee building which is located to the left of the Lecture Annex – I and exactly behind the Workshop and the Mechanical Department is going to have multiple entrée points with the main entrance behind the workshop and other entrances being adjacent to the BM-BT building and the EC-EE building. The entrances are also said to have a touch of greenery.

This mega project of approx. 100 Crores was handed over to the Shapoorji Pallonji Constructors, and the work officially started in December 2013.

As we had earlier reported the entire building has been divided into three basic sections; a seven-storey Administrative block, a thirteen-storey tower for departmental classes and the third for informal activities. In the administrative cell, three floors shall be allotted for the Library. A complete floor maybe allotted for the Directorial office. It is also speculated that a large scale telescope shall be installed at the top of the tower. Provisions for three pairs of lift, two for each section, have been made. This building is going to have centralized Air Conditioning.

The Golden Jubilee building is all set to be the perfect memoir for the 50 gallant years of NITR. It is going to be the most important building on the campus and everyone on the campus eagerly awaits the completion of this massive infrastructure.
