Inter- NIT, Knocking at the Door

With less than a week to go, the preparations for the athletic meet, set to be held in NIT Rourkela, are on a high. As decided in the OINSA meet, different NITs will get the responsibilities of organising the various sports events, NITR fetched the department of athletics this year which is scheduled to be held from 23rd January to 25th January this month. The sports secretaries Ajith Krishnan and Poorna Chander Reddy are spending sleepless nights to make the event a grand success.

The organising committee is making preparations for 27 events for both men and women in this year’s athletic meet. Expecting a participation of more than 500 students from around fifteen NITs namely, NIT Warangal, Trichy, Surathkal, Allahabad, Silchar, etc.; they have already stared preparations for their accommodation in the common rooms of the various hall of residences. According to Ajith Krishnan, orders have been placed for 500 sets of bedding which includes mattresses, pillows and mosquito repellents. They aim to provide accommodation to the participants as soon as they arrive in the institute.

On the other hand, purchasing of equipments like high jump mat, shot puts, javelins, discus, high jump stands and many others have been made amounting to more than 4 lakhs INR, while the ground preparations have already started long before. The secretaries would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude towards Prof. Debayan Sarkar and Prof. S.K. Karak, the two vice presidents of Games and Sports society, for their selfless support throughout the year despite facing shortage of funds in SAC, not only in one but all the societies.

Concentrating on the institute team, a group of 25 athletes have been trained for the last 3 months and even a coach has been appointed to check their performance in the last two weeks. They are all set and looking forward to win the championship for NITR. Team MM wishes them all the very best for their performance.

A team of 5 best swimmers have been selected for the Inter NIT Swimming Competition which is to be held at NIT Surathkal from 30th January to 1st February. While NIT Allahabad is set to organise the game of cricket, the team of NITR have taken on some serious practice by playing practice matches between different year teams and also between the A and B teams. On the other hand, football is to be hosted by NIT Warangal from 5th to 8th February. According to the SAC secretaries, all teams are undergoing rigorous practice sessions and are esteemed to do well. One of them also said,

We hope the hard work of our players will not go in vain ad shall win the championship for our institute. We request everyone to be present in the field to cheer up our team. In the end I would like to mention Keep Calm and Play Sports.
