He is one of the pillars of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, and one of the minds behind the flourishing Microwave & Antenna Development Laboratory. Professor Santanu Kumar Behera sure has proved his worth in the world of academia.
Prof Behera received his BSC (Engg) in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from University College of Engineering Burla (presently VSSUT Burla), Sambalpur in 1990, M.E. Telecommunication Engineering in 2001 and PhD (Engg) in 2008 from the prestigious Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has published and presented more than 75 research papers in several distinguished journals and international conferences and symposia.
His research interests include Electromagnetic Theory, Microwave Engineering and Antennae Design. He has published several papers on Microatrip Antennae, Dielectric Resonator Antennae, UWB Antenna, Fractal Antenna, Microwave Devices, Microwave Filters and Metamaterials. He has supervised three PhD students on the above areas. Presently, two more PhD students are working under him.
Apart from guiding the students of the institute, Prof. Behera has research collaboration with eminent institutes which include SDSU California, University of Cape Town South Africa, University of Alberta Canada and University of Leeds UK. Prof. Behera has won several Best Paper awards from IEEE International conferences with his research scholars Yogesh Kumar Choukiker, Runa Kumari and Sreenu Mudavath.
Professor Behera has contributed to the education of students at various institutes before NIT Rourkela. He joined UCP Engineering School as a Lecturer through the Odisha Public Service Commission in May 1992. From July 2001 to June 2007, he was posted at Women’s Polytechnic, Dhenkanal. After joining at NIT Rourkela in 2007, there was no looking back.
Currently he is the Editor of Journal of Microwave and Technology, India, apart from being senior member of IEEE, lifetime member of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Institute of Engineers, Computer Society of India, Indian Society for Technical Education and Society of EMC Engineers. He is also the reviewer of refereed journals including IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, IET Journal of Microwave, Antennas and Propagation, IET Electronic Letters, International Journal of Radio and Space Physics (CSIR, India), Journal of IETE, India and many more. He has served as committee member of international symposia and conferences including holding the chair of special sessions at 9th International Conference on Information, Communications and Signal Processing (ICICS), Singapore in December 2011.
