IEDP at Mining Engineering Department

The Department of Mining Engineering successfully organized an International Executive Development Program (EDP) on “Mine Management, Legislation and General Safety”, for the Executives of BCMCL, Bangladesh from 23rd February to 6th March, 2015 at NIT, Rourkela. The program was attended by 13 Executives of Petrobangla, BCMCL and Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Bangladesh. Prof. D.P.Tripathy was the Core Coordinator of the program. In the training program, the participants were imparted theoretical and practical knowledge and skill on “Challenging issues of Mine Management, Legal Compliance aspects and Safety issues in Coal Mines”.


ISRM - 2015

The Department of Mining Engineering, NIT Rourkela in collaboration with YMFI, Rourkela conducted Workshop on “Industrial safety and Risk Management-ISRM-2015 “in the Dept. of Mining Engineering, NIT on 24 January, 2015. The program was graced by Prof. N. Nayak, Director, IIPM, Kansbahal as Guest of Honor. The organizing committee members were: Prof. D.P.Tripathy, Chairman, Er. N.K.Dhar, Chairman, YMFI, Mr. B.Das, Secy., YMFI, Dr. H.K.Naik, HOD and Dr.A.Kumar (CH). Participants from nearby industry and academic institutions participated in the program. The deliberations on several aspects of: Industrial Safety Risk Assessment and Management in Mining, Chemical, Civil engg. Sectors, PPE, Behavior based safety, First Aid and Disaster Management were held and the program was successfully organized. 

Instilling Computational Skills

NITR has always been manifesting immense value for practical education. This time an amount of more than 10 lakh has been invested in the Department of Mining to setup two laboratories.



Hailing from a village known as Bagmara at Sindri at a distance of around 15 km from Dhanbad District, Prof AmitGoari received his preliminary education from Bagmari Middle School where he studied upto class 8. After that he got enrolled in Beliapur High School and passed his matriculation from there. He completed his high school at Sindri College and then cracked his WBJEE, thereby pursuing his B.E from Bengal Engineering College and completed his Master Degree from the same. Thereafter, he carried out a project for 4 months at Central Mining Research Institute, Dhanbad and subsequently completed his Doctoral from ISM Dhanbad. He then joined BIT Sindhri as a part-time lecturer for over one-and-a half year, and then served at the department of Environmental Science and Engineeirng at BIT Mesra for & years. In the meantime, he was conferred the Raman Post Doctoral Fellowship awarded by UGC and thereby pursued his Post Doctoral from Jackson State University USA for a year. He then rejoined at BIT Mesra where he worked for another 3 months before joining NIT as a professor in the department of Mining Engineering NIT Rourkela.



The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela Local Centre, organized an All India Seminar on MINING – RECENT ADVANCES, CHALLENGES AND SCENARIO BEYOND 2015 (MRACSB15-2014), from 8th to 9th November 2014. This seminar was organized in the pretext of the Golden Jubilee year of the centre. The seminar focussed on several issues like geotechnical investigation, mine design, new mining technologies, mine communication and environmental impacts of mining. The financial support for the seminar was provided by TEQIP-II, NIT Rourkela.
