The Mining department of NIT Rourkela welcomed the newbies of the trade with a grand freshers’ welcome on 9th of September, Tuesday in LA-214 with great audacity.
The event was graced by the blessings of Prof M.K.Mishra, Prof D.S. Nimaje and the Head of the Department, Prof H.K.Naik. With some valuable words of advice and some teachings to help them throughout their stay at NITR and the life beyond: the freshmen got a first-hand idea of how and what should be their approach to academics and other important affairs that NITR has in store for them. Clad in formals, around 35 of the 40 newbies attended their branch welcoming ceremony.
As a custom, a presentation was shown after the lamps were lit which highlighted the past achievements, the goals, the milestones and the various aspects and opportunities in the department. The annual technical fest solely hosted by the department of Mining Engineering: “Minare” was focused on. A brief speech by the professors boosted the confidence of all the miners. The new post holders of MES (Mining Engineering Society) like the Patron, Prof. S.K. Sarangi, the President, Prof. H. Naik, advisor, treasurer, vice president and the various secretaries and class representatives were announced.
Some cultural events followed which included few songs and dances by the boys which was thoroughly enjoyed by audience. Though the expected turnout was slashed by a margin due to IBM placements on the very day, it did not seem to affect the enthusiasm and energy of the room at all. All the freshers customarily introduced themselves to the members of their department. The prospect of a bright future in the branch lifted the spirits of everyone. Multiple photo sessions followed along with interaction of seniors and the first years going on simultaneously. It was an extremely commendable effort by the sophomores, who sweated out to make the event a grand success.
Team MM wishes good luck to all the freshmen for their future!
