On the evening of 5th September 2015, the Department of Mathematics, NIT Rourkela organized a combined celebration of Teachers’ Day and Freshers’ Welcome. Held in the usually under-lit LA-004, the event saw the room transform into a bright room full of cheer. The ceremony started at around 6.00 pm. The guests included Prof S Chakraverty, HOD, Department of Mathematics, Prof Manas Ranjan Tripathy and Mr Bakare E.A in addition to the freshers of Integrated MSc Mathematics and MSc Mathematics programmes.
The ceremony started with paying homage to Dr S. Radhakrishnan followed by a cake-cutting and some inspirational talks from the faculty members. Then followed a song recital by a fresher which was followed by a formal introduction of the new faces in the department and this was followed by a round of snacks. With the professors deciding to leave early, the ceremony rolled on quickly with a few more song and impromptu dance performances. Then followed some games which included trivia on the value of pi, the golden ratio and Fibonacci series etc and a few more fun games.
Selfie sessions and music and dance everywhere, the freshers’ welcome was an event well organized in terms of venue and refreshments. The Department welcomed its new additions with a lot of enthusiasm and they wish the freshers’ all the best for their stay in the institute and the future.
