The Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted a magnificent fresher’s on 11th September, 2015. The event was organised solely by the sophomores at LA-214, on a rainy evening. No power along with a slight drizzle delayed the programme by an hour, but it wasn’t enough to deter the organisers from hosting the gala evening for the freshers.

The meet commenced with the arrival of Director, Prof. Sunil Kumar Sarangi lighting the lamp. Addressing the students, he did uplift the spirit of the crowd by saying

"There are only two branches of Engineering - Mechanical and others”

It was acknowledged by the audience by a loud and thunderous applause. Later on Prof S.S. Mohapatra, H.OD., Department of Mechanical Engineering also welcomed the students. It was followed soon by the set of cultural performances. It started with a fresher Harpriya Padhi’s solo singing performance followed by Harpreet who mesmerised the crowd with his song “Socha Hai”, with Debashish playing guitar. The sophomore’s took the stage next with Punya and Ashish singing some popular romantic numbers.  With the mood completely set up the finishing touches were provided a couple of group dance performances by Aliva and K Sai, along with their respective groups who set the crowd shaking a leg too with them. The evening ended with Debabrata’s soulful performance, singing some popular odia songs.

All in all, it was the event was a huge success. The sophomore’s were satisfied with their great efforts finally paying off. Debabrata and Aliva were judged Mr. And Miss freshers for their wonderful performances. The overall decoration along with food packets’ quality was commendably lauded by everyone. Abhratej delivered the final Vote of Thanks and that ended a evening full of fun and frolic, thus adding another bunch of fresh minds to the Mechanical family of NITR.
