Fellowship of Pitchers: National Entrepreneurship Summit

National Entrepreneurship Summit (NES) is an initiative of Entrepreneurship Cell, the official entrepreneurship development club of NIT-Rourkela. First held in 2013, the summit has grown significantly over the three years. It is a platform where entrepreneurial minds throughout the country meet, where inspired by old ideas, new ones arise and where these ideas are put to test.

It is a get-together of motivated students, aspiring entrepreneurs as well as established professionals, who meet under various formal and informal sessions, which include Guest Lectures, Workshops, Panel Discussions, Keynote talks, B-Plan Competitions and an Innovator’s Camp which has participation of various national universities and institutes.

The E-Cell team has been working over the last three months to organize the 4th National Entrepreneurship Summit, which is scheduled to be held from 18th to 20th March 2016.

Basic Preparations:

Preparations have been made with an aspiration to make the 4th Summit much better than the previous ones. The preparations include the invitation of more than 10 distinguished guests, including the chief guest Mr. Srikumar Misra, the Founder, MD, and CEO of Milk Mantra. Other distinguished guests include officials representing various incubation, entrepreneurship-development and investing organizations as well as famous entrepreneurs and managers. These guests are expected to deliver keynote talks, provide investment opportunities, product development and mentoring opportunities.

Budget and Sponsorships:

The budget for NES has been sanctioned from TEQIP-II (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme, Phase II) funds and Technical Society under Student Activity Centre (SAC) with contributions of Rs. 120,000 and Rs. 80,000 respectively.

A total of Rs. 180, 000 has been raised via various sponsors, the work being still in progress; and partnership goodies worth Rs. 20,000 has been promised.

The publicity started from the day when National Entrepreneurship Summit page was created on 12 December 2015. Making Of Legends was an initiative of making people aware of the Indian Entrepreneurs. It has tied up with Start Up Bhubaneswar, Rourkela Tips and Radio Choklate. The online media publicity has reached 15k. People working in the publicity team have contacted Indian Institute Of Management (IIM), all NITs and IITs, Engineering and B-schools of Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Raipur.

A registration fee of Rs. 400 is charged for the participants of the summit. NIT Rourkela students are not required to pay any registration fee. On the spot registration is allowed.

Visiting students will receive accommodation and bedding and will have to pay for their own food. Male students will mostly be accommodated in SD Hall of Residence while the girls will be accommodated in CVR Hall of Residence.

NEGOSYO: The Business Plan Competition:

NEGOSYO, the annual Business Plan competition in collaboration with NASSCOM 10000 Start-Ups, Unitus seed fund and Calcutta Angels is the flagship event of National Entrepreneurship Summit 2016. It will provide a platform for participants to get mentored from top professionals excelling in their fields. They will also get an opportunity to pitch before eminent personnel, Angel Investors, Incubators, and other peer industry leaders.

Innovators Camp:

It is an initiative taken by Entrepreneurship Cell, NIT Rourkela to provide an opportunity to the budding entrepreneurs to exhibit their products, pitch their ideas and interact with delegates and judges from various organizations like NASSCOM 10000 Startups, Calcutta Angels, Innokul, NSIC, EDI, USF and TiE. This will give them a chance to be mentored from angel investors and incubators.

Expectations this year:

The organizers expect a good participation from the institute since NES 2016 provides investment opportunity, product development and mentoring opportunity, high quality keynote talks, workshops, online events, fun events for people not interested in core entrepreneurship, panel discussions and interactive sessions with invited guests of high profile.

Team E-Cell also hopes that people from all streams (UG, PG, research) come up and show their innovative talents; learn and also develop themselves.

We are calling angel investors and incubators from very prominent organizations. So we want healthy participation from our institute as well as outside colleges.  We are keeping a one to one interactive session with our judging panel (angel investors and incubators). Its a chance for the Start up to get investment support. It will be a proud moment for us if one of our institute based start up can get incubation or investment support from the judges  depending on their convincing power, idea and business acumen.
