The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, NIT, Rourkela, organized a three-day short term course titled “Project Management for Development Professionals and Researchers (PMDPR)” from 27th to 29th January 2017. The course was coordinated by Dr. Nihar Ranjan Mishra, HOD, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. S. P. Ray and Dr. Apparao. Prof. B. Majhi, Director In-charge inaugurated the course. Prof. G. K, Panda, Dean, SRICCE was the guest of honour and Mr. Narendra Babu, Consultant, NABARD was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony.

A total of twenty candidates participated in the course. The participants were development professionals from several states representing various NGOs and a few of them were at an advanced stage of their research in esteemed Universities. The resource persons from eminent organizations, NGOs and from NIT Rourkela delivered lectures on some important topics like Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation; Budgeting where the participants were explained about how to balance expenses with income in order to keep yourself safe from being in debt; Human Resource Planning wherein students analyzed the current and future demands of the society and tried to build up a strategic plan to aid the demands; Fund Mobilization which was basically about directing the right amount of money in the right direction; designing project and Procurement; Participatory Needs assessment; Baseline Surveys which are a key component of CCAFS monitoring, learning and evaluation system; Project Implementation; Program Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Assessment; Project Management Tools; Fieldwork and Report Writing.

The participants also conducted a fieldwork in Jamshera panchayat, Bisra block. The Block Development Officer, Bisra block and his staff extended their full support to organise the fieldwork. The Deputy Director, Planning, Sundargarh District also delivered a lecture on District Action Plan. In the end the Block Development Officer, Nuagaon delivered the Valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants.
