The National institute of Technology Rourkela Alumni Association (NITRAA) hosted its 52nd Annual Home Coming & Alumni Induction Ceremony jointly with Centre for Alumni Relation & Resource Generation (AR&RG), NIT Rourkela on 18th April, 2017 at Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera Auditorium to welcome all the students graduating in 2017 as new members of NITRAA.

The annual event this year witnessed the participation of alumni, faculties and final year students of NIT Rourkela. A number of alumni visited the campus with their families making the event all the more interesting. Following the lighting of ceremonial lamp amidst sloka chanting, the event commenced with an inauguration. Welcoming everyone at the ceremony, Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi, Dean (Alumni Relations & Recourse Generation), NIT, Rourkela and Prof. Saroj Kumar Patel, Vice President, NITRAA emphasised on the conscious role that every alumnus has to play in the development of the alma mater and alumni association. While Dr. Subudhi applauded the several achievements of the alumni in both corporate sector and entrepreneurship, Dr. Patel updated that with every passing year, the alumni community of NIT Rourkela is becoming stronger in the tune of 1200.

Briefing regarding activities of NITRAA in last 52 glorious years of its existence, Sri Biswajit Mishra, General Secretary, NITRAA termed the would be alumni as the newest brand ambassador of this great institute and encouraged them to get involved, to reach out and to actively connect with the alumni association.

The esteemed guest of the evening, Sri Subhendra Das, Executive Director (Works), SAIL – Rourkela Steel Plant, himself an alumnus of 1980 batch was overwhelmed in addressing the graduating students underlining the importance of translating the articulated education to the benefit of the world. He encouraged the students to realise their unique potential fully and wholly to make this country and the world a better place to live. In his inspirational address, he stressed on how the alumni must focus on commanding better respect and prosperity for self as well as on showing gratitude to the alma mater.

Speaking on the occasion, the Guest of Honour, Sri Prabhat Kumar Pradhan, Executive Director (Personnel & Administration) SAIL- Rourkela Steel Plant, a 1982 alumnus of NIT, Rourkela pointed out how alumni have to play a major role in making the institute one of India’s top-ranked institute. He also highlighted the importance of putting visible and sincere efforts in bringing in all the alumni closer and to develop and sustain lasting relationships established with alma mater.

Sri Fakir Charan Mohanty, Advisor, NITRAA expressed his profound faith on the faculty and management capability of NIT Rourkela under the able directorship of Prof. Animesh Biswas. He also encouraged the graduating students to believe in their potential and the education and training imparted to them by this great institute and how to properly utilise them in their professional careers.

Post the address, the event witnessed Award Ceremony and Felicitation of the Chief guest and Guests of Honour. Ms Priyanka Choudhary, Ms Anukta Datta and Sri Anamay Sarkar, all from final year B. Tech, were awarded Asim Choudhury Memorial Award, Debashis Memorial Award & Best Student award respectively. The entire event was swiftly anchored by Prof. Archana Mallik, the vote of thanks was offered by Sri Bimal Bisi, Treasuer, NITRAA.

The fellowship dinner, later in the evening provided a great opportunity towards networking between alumni and students. It was a great start for the graduating students to get in touch with some distinguished alumni and have everlasting ties with the institute.
