In the monotonous life cycle of a student, which mainly includes eating, sleeping, lectures, and repeating, ‘College Fests’ shows a certain degree of fluctuations in the excitement levels of students. Why would not it? As the festive season slowly marches closer and closer with time, every student can taste the sweet scent of hard work; hard work of not only the students organizing it but the ones killing themselves with incessant practices to win that victory title.

Showcasing the varied and vibrant cultural life of the campus, NIT Rourkela(NITR) hosted the largest cultural festival of Eastern India: NITRUTSAV 2018, where participants witnessed prolific fun events, proshows, flagship events and many more. While the collaborative and strenuous efforts of the organizers managed to garner a definitely greater number of footfall than the previous years, there were tiny but consequential flaws that acted as a setback for such a grand event. To clear the air of confusion, the official media body of the institute, Monday Morning conducted a poll on the question, 'How do you rate NITRUTSAV, 2018?', the analysis of which is brought to you below.

A clean majority of 62% populace says that 'The organizing team of NITRUTSAV did a good job of putting together a well-organized fest, with fun-filled events and pro-shows.' Unlike the previous years, this time the events were more fun-filled and gained a larger crowd of participants. One could see people scattered throughout the streets of NITR participating and enjoying each event thoroughly. Flagship Events like Nukkad gathered four teams as compared to only one last year, Footloose partnered with Indian Hip-Hop Championship 2018, and Qurious, United Youth Conference and Voice of NU saw a large footfall. The event Pictionary attracted close to 500 participants, and other fun events such as Paintball, Paper Dance, Meltdown, Blind Date and Game of Cards brought in a large number of participants, nearly 200 on an average in each event. The crowd also witnessed the best of stand-up by the Bhubaneswar Komedians, mind-blowing EDMs by Dj Paranox and Dj Zephyrtone and Bollywood heart throb Papon in his extremely flamboyant form.

13% of the total mass say that they could not attend the fest due to some unavoidable circumstances. Since the fest clashed with the GATE examination, the final year GATE aspirants were not able to enjoy the fun and frolic. Moreover, there also exists a section of students who prefer to stay back at their hostel rooms and prepare for the mid-semester examinations. Fests, for them, does not seem to be of much concern or interest.

'The fest was not organized smoothly and was marred by haphazard conduction of the events.' say 25% of the population. Publicity was done on an average scale, and there was a delay in releasing of posters, a major reason behind such a low footfall in comparison to the tech-fest. A lack of coordination could be seen among the coordinators. Identity Cards were not issued to the whole team and there were delays in putting the flexes and standees. Cancellation of events and shifting of events at the last moment also counted in one of the major setbacks for the fest. All these vividly shows that there was lack of cooperation between the SAC officials and the convenors.

All in all to say NITRUTSAV 2K18 was successful barring the small delays and the technical glitches in the events. The fest attracted participants from different parts of the country. With another passing year, the fest just achieved a new record. Team Monday Morning congratulates Team Nitrutsav 2018 for putting together a commendable fest.
