Graphic design will save the world right after rock and roll does

- David Carson

DesignTab is the official design club of NIT Rourkela that falls under the Technical society of SAC. It was founded by 3 NIT alumni namely, Abhisek Mishra, Sidhartha Tirthankar, and Swarup Kumar Subudhi in the year 2013, with a mission to create awareness about the value of design in today's world and collaborate with designers and engineers to develop products that positively impact people's lives.

DesignTab organized its first orientation of this academic year on 1st August 2018 at LA 201. The event was scheduled to start at 6 pm but it got delayed by 15 minutes due to unforeseen circumstances. In spite of the delay and a shower of rain, the event got a good and enthusiastic audience.

There was a powerpoint presentation by Uditanshu Padhi and Nischay Nirajit, focusing on familiarising the audience with the club culture of NITR along with the intricacies of design as a work of aesthetics and a medium of problem-solving. A brief insight into the founding members was provided by the presenters followed by a fun quiz which titillated the competitive attitude of the audience. The orientation was concluded with interactive sessions by 4th-year members of the club, namely Abhay Rahul Malik, Sambit Kumar Maharana and Partha Dhal.

The vision of our club is to create a platform where creatives could meet other creatives, with the intent of sharing their individual ideas and then collaborating with each other to create or work on something that would be overwhelming for a single individual. And the mission is to spread awareness about design among newcomers and interested students through classes and workshops; also to get together and create something.

said Abhay Rahul Malik, the President.

The present post-holders of DesignTab have planned to induct new members after properly teaching the aspiring members the minimum prerequisites that are required for basic graphics designing and final selection will happen based on the tasks assigned. The present members will undergo training of advanced photoshop, illustrations and after effects to hone their skills and showcase their prowess in IRIDISCENCE 2018.

A class on basic Photoshop was organized on 4th August 2018 from 6 pm for the aspiring designers and was coordinated by Dharmesh Nayak and P Sunayana. Many enthusiastic students turned up to hone their Photoshop skills under the able guidance of the members of DesignTab. Following is the tentative working schedule of the Induction process:

DesignTab, despite being a young club, has been an integral part of INNOVISION, NITRUTSAV, VRIDHHI, MUN etc. by designing the posters and flex banners which help in publicizing the events. Currently, the club is headed by Abhay Rahul Malik and Sambit Kumar Maharana as the President and Vice-President respectively. With new ideas and vigor, the DesignTab team plans to take up mock-up branding projects, product design and involve members on UX/UI design learning in order to make them efficient enough to tap the huge potential these fields possess.

This century belongs to creativity and innovation. In everything we do, the way we live is a lot different from what it used to be earlier. Our engagement to shape our future has become intense and pervasive. Every aspect of life demands a new approach, a new solution, a new way of looking at it. We design to design our tomorrow with a greater thrust on making the experience constantly better.

said Sambit Kumar Maharana, the Vice-President.

Team MM wishes DesignTab all the luck in its future endeavors.
