In the ongoing season of welcoming the freshmen into the family, the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering department wasn’t left behind. The sophomores of the department organized their branch fresher’s welcome on 30th August in LA 214, with the aim of making sure that the young students feel comfortable interacting with their branch mates and making a transition into college life. Young boys clad in formal attire and girls dressed in traditional Indian wear characterized the freshmen as they sat with anticipation in their eyes of a night which was to officiate their journey in their discipline.
The event kick-started around 6 pm by the vivacious anchors Satyaket Das and Shiny Lohani who called upon the professors on the dais for sharing their immense experience in this branch and wishing the newbies a grand successful career ahead. The guest panel consisted of the knowledge and experience of professors like Prof. Rajesh Prusty, Prof. Anshuman Patra, Prof. Ajit Behera, Prof. Debasish Chaira, Prof. Snehanshu Pal, Prof. Syed Nasimul Alam. The freshmen had been briefed about the campus life and the myriad opportunities they can get to explore themselves.
Meanwhile, a questionnaire was distributed which consisted of a set of witty and well-crafted questions. Further, snacks and refreshments were provided to the audience as they leaned back enjoying the proceedings.
The focus then shifted to the freshmen as they grooved to popular Bollywood numbers. Anchal Panigrahy, Shrestha Mohapatra, and Diptimayee Mohapatra captivated the audience with their enchanting moves. Ishant Tembhare radiated soothing vibes by reciting a Kumar Vishwas poetry. Subhash Sahoo entertained the crowd with his melodious tone. Tapashree Pradhan carried on the joyous atmosphere with her ornamental vocal on a Taylor Swift number. Tanaya Sahoo continued the rhythm through her soulful verses. Based on scrupulous scrutiny of the questionnaire which was filled up by the freshmen earlier, Vishal Agarwal and Anchal Panigrahy had been adjudged Mr. and Ms. Fresher respectively.
Satyajit Mohapatra, the Class Representative of Final year, expressed his satisfaction and greeted the youngsters with grace. In his words,
It was a memorable experience for the final years and I wish that the freshmen felt the same. Hope they have a good time ahead.
Raj Manik, the Class Representative of Sophomore year, was elated with the success of the event as he speaks,
The overall organizing team did a fantastic job. Although there were some lacks, the Sophomores managed to run the show smoothly. I welcome the freshers for a memorable institute-life journey.
Soon, the evening came to an end, with days of planning and preparations ensuring that the program progressed smoothly barring a few technical glitches and complications here and there. NIT Rourkela’s one of the oldest engineering branch gladly accepted a new batch of students into its folds with an assurance to turn them into promising engineers.
