Embracing The Next-Gen Ceramists: Ceramic Freshers

The Department of Ceramic Engineering at NITR welcomed its newbies on the evening of 28th August 2018 by hosting a Fresher’s party in the Ceramic Seminar Hall. The event witnessed a footfall of around 148 students from all the year-wise batches of the Department including 39 freshmen. The event was scheduled to start sharp at 6:00 PM but owing to the absence of the department Professors the event got delayed.

After the completion of the ongoing Professors’ meet, the HOD Prof. Ritwik Sarkar along with few other Department Professors namely- Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya, Prof. Arun Chowdhury (Faculty Advisor of 2018, 2022/23 batch) and Prof. Partha Saha arrived following which the event kicked off. The event started off with seniors addressing their juniors followed by a short pep-talk by the HOD Prof. Ritwik Sarkar and his message to the newly admitted batch of the Department. Following this, Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of the Engineering discipline and its applications in the industrial growth for any country. This followed by candid speeches made by Prof. Arun Chowdhury and Prof. Partha Saha. Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya correctly remarked,

You all are pure gold because you have been burnt in the purification process of JEE and it is now our duty to process you all as the finest products of our education system.

Freshers perform

Following the speeches of Professors, there was an array of performances by the freshmen. It started off with a melodious song sung by Mohammad Hillal to which beatboxing was done by Sujith E. S. so as to provide rhythmic beats. This was followed by a solo song performance by Ankita Banerjee. Achint Sarbajeet Bishoyi, Debabrata Panda, Siddhartha Nanda sung a medley altogether following which there were solo performances by Mohit Madhav, Siddhant Mahapatra and Somdeb Ganguly.

After the completion of all the performances by the freshmen, food packets along with other refreshments were distributed to them. Following this, a questionnaire seeking candid responses was also circulated among the newbies. Once the freshers had done with the filling in of the response sheets, there was a light-hearted interactive session between the freshers and the students from final year. A group of freshers consisting of Somdeb Ganguly, Siddhartha Nanda, Nihar Ranjan Mohanty and Rajesh Kumar performed Roadies act. The mirth-filled evening was marked was marked by humorous remarks followed by an outburst of laughter which echoed the Department building. In the end, it was unanimously decided that Siddhartha Nanda and Nirupama would be awarded the titles of Mr. Fresher and Miss Fresher respectively for the academic year of 2018-19.

In a nutshell, it was an enjoyable and memorable evening for the Ceramists at NITR, a day to look back and ponder upon in the future. Team MM wishes the Ceramic Department freshers all the luck and prosperity in their journey ahead.
