Enunciating about the future prospects of the students of the department, the HOD of the Department., Prof. Mahabir Panda accentuates that the number of jobs in Govt. sector is highest in the dept. The Department also is credited with a good number of positions in private sectors in the areas of field supervision and consultancy in the form of design and development. The opportunities for higher studies and research is quite large (especially abroad) as compared to other disciplines.

In the field of internships, the students are looking forward to domestic and foreign-based internship programs and exploring other options. The placement scenario of the dept. this year has been admirable, with a large number of job offers from companies like L&T, Mu Sigma, Vedanta, Axxela Advisory Services LLP, Thornton Tomasetti and IOCL to name some.

The department is looking forward to organizing some research projects and courses which will give students exposure to industrial work skills and environment. The Department also wishes to host seminars on Reinforced Cement, Concrete Design, Nonlinear Structural Analysis, Geoinformatics and Sustainable Materials and Technology for Better Future (SMTBF). The hindrance caused in the development of the Department and the academics of the students due to lack of space for labs and research projects is a major concern. To redress this, the Department plans to shift some of its sections to the new mechanical building.

The department has a legacy of producing efficient engineers, who work for the development of the world and enriching the lives of the human race. Some of the notable alumni of the dept. are Major General Ramesh Chandra Padhi (Additional Director General, Indian Army), Ajit Samal (VP, Vedanta Group), Mithilesh Abhishekh (Technical Director at Globant) and many more.
