If you want to change the culture, you will have to start by changing the organization.

Fulfiling the words of Mary Douglas, Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Among Youth ( SPIC MACAY) has been working on promoting Indian culture and traditions across the whole world since 1977. Founded by Dr Kiran Seth, SPIC MACAY has a total of 26 chapters spread across the whole world and has been efficiently promoting the values and aspects of Indian heritage and has been pursuing youth to take up more of such practices in art, culture, music and more. To spread the words even more, NIT Rourkela chapter of SPIC MACAY was started in 2013 and has been working soulfully to serve the aim of the movement.

On the 8th of August, SPIC MACAY conducted its annual orientations-cum-inductions in LA-117. Starting at 5:30 pm, enthusiasts started to fill up the allotted classroom and some 50 students gathered including both freshers and sophomores. Soon, they started their presentation in which evening’s host Om Singh and Dibyadarshini Behera talked about the goals and achievements of the society. They also talked about the functioning and year-long activities of the club. The presentation ended with an announcement of inductions in which the students were given a questionnaire containing both general personality-related questions and specific skill related questions.

The current post-holders of the society are Shivam Kumar(president), Shivani Maharana( Vice-President) and Swatantra Kumar Gupta(Manager) and have been skillfully fulfilling the goals of the society.

Talking about future plans, the President of the society speaks:

Following our inductions, our next planned program is on 10th of August which hosts a renowned percussionist Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram, a well known personality with a Grammy, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree awards. The budget of the event is 3 lakhs and will commence in the realms of BBA on saturday evening.

The society has been successful in hosting a few past events which have mesmerized the crowd of NIT Rourkela including performances by Pandit Vijay Ghate, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Padma Shri Vikku Vinayakram, Padma Shri Geeta Chandran, Prof. Ramahari Das and many more.

Adding more the past accolades, President Shivam adds:

Last session, we organized a Pandavini by Smt Teejan Bai, a Padma Bhushan awardee on March 29th, 2019 which was a huge success.

On being asked about the activities and performance of the society, Shivam says:

This academic year began with our orientation-cum-induction program which witnessed 40+ participants out of which 20 will be inducted. SPIC MACAY provides a great platform to help students master their management skills as it organizes big events and it surely has a great future in NIT Rourkela.

Monday Morning congratulates SPIC MACAY for conducting its orientations and inductions successfully and wishes them a great future.
