Banhi Biswajeeta (EC) - Deloitte and United Health Group

Q: Are you satisfied with the company you are placed in or did you expect a better company?

A: I have been placed in three reputed firms: Capgemini, Deloitte and United Health Group.
Deloitte is one of the big four audit firms in the world and UHG is ranked no. 14 in Fortune 500. Being placed in all the three categories-normal, dream and super dream, I couldn’t be more satisfied.

Q: Were there any challenges that you faced in the beginning of the placement season?

A: Since I had a research oriented internship at IIT Kharagpur during the summer, I couldn’t devote much of my time to prepare for the placements. The rejection in my very first company Musigma, was a big blow to me. I failed to qualify even its first round. That was a much needed failure! It was imperative for me to work hard then!

Q: Were you rejected by any other company? If yes, what could be the possible reasons?

A: Other than Musigma, I was rejected in the interview round of oracle apps. I had the interview rounds for Deloitte, Oracle apps, EXL, NCR, ZS Associates in close succession. Deloitte interviews were conducted in a pool campus at ITER, Bhubaneswar and the following day was Oracle apps at Rourkela. Probably due to the hectic schedule and the fact that one was an audit firm and the other was a technical firm, I couldn’t prepare well according to the requirements of oracle apps. Thankfully, I got placed in Deloitte and didn’t have to appear for the other interviews. Therefore, know what interests you and what companies you are actually interested in and prepare accordingly.

Q: How many levels were there in the selection procedure of this company?

A: Deloitte:

1st round was an online written round consisting of QA, VA, LR and RC.

2nd round was a case study round. We were asked to have a GD, deduce the answers to the questions asked and later on present it to the moderator.

3rd round-Technical, HR, and stress interview all in 1 which lasted for around 50 minutes.

1ST round was a pen & paper written round but the question pattern was similar to that of Deloitte’s.

There were three rounds of interviews:

1st Technical round: They looked for technical skills, analytical skills (they even questioned me on topics from engineering mathematics).

2nd Technical round: The questions were more inclined towards the branch subjects and the projects that I had undertaken in my sophomore and my pre-final years.

3rd: HR round.

Q: What preparations did you undergo to get through the written rounds?

A: There is no better book than Arun Sharma to prepare quants. Any CAT material will be helpful for verbal ability, reading comprehension and logical reasoning. All one needs is PRACTICE! Revising the basics of C and C++ is more than enough.

Q: What preparations did you undergo to get through the GD rounds?

A: There was no GD round for UHG but Deloitte had a Case Study GD round. I was suggested by a senior to study the book “Case in point”. I didn’t have much time; I just overlooked it. Trust me; you can call it the Bible for case studies.

Q: What preparations did you undergo to get through the Interview rounds?

A: I knew my stuff. I didn’t bluff. I learnt C, data structures, JAVA and SQL during the holidays over the 4 years. I just brushed up the basics before the interviews. The interviewers mostly ask intelligent but basic questions to test you. All you need is a bit of common sense to answer them. Don’t stress, don’t panic. Keep calm and be confident.

Q: Any tips or suggestions for the juniors?

A: Extract the maximum knowledge you can acquire from NIT. Strive hard to carve a niche for yourself in a core technological firm or an analytics firm or the firm of your choice. Discover your calling and know what interests you. DO NOT BLUFF IN YOUR CV. Make sure that everything written in the CV is absolutely true.

Q: Can you briefly explain your overall experience of the placement season?

A: Never deterred by adversities my grandmother represented to me the face of hope. I owe it to her for everything that I am and everything that I want to be.

I never thought about the outcome; I instead focussed on the process. I never let panic get the better of me.
