Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda of the School of Management recently attended the Annual Festival of Innovation at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, to represent NIT Rourkela. The festival was organised by the National Innovation Foundation in collaboration with the President’s secretariat. The week-long festival was a platform for national institutes to portray the innovation scenarios within their campus through stories of appreciable developments in pertinent fields like economics, medical sciences, engineering technologies etc. It received participation from institutes of national importance like IIMs, IITs and NITs. The event saw two very remarkable speeches by Anil Gupta, executive vice-chairman, National Innovation Foundation and Oriel Reichmann, director, Inter Disciplinary Research Foundation of Israel.
In his presentation titled “ Inspiring Innovation ” , Dr. Panda touched upon the numerous instances of innovation that NITR has seen in the past few years – the portable washing machine, a weather monitoring system, smart pill box, automated ‘gupchup’ vending machine and a quiz buzzer system, each one a conception by NITR students. The attempt was to capture and convey the atmosphere of innovation within the campus to the audience, which included Omita Paul, secretary to the President, among other dignitaries.
Dr. Panda heads two innovation and entrepreneurship centered sponsored projects in the institute – Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial development of SMEs through incubators. His perception of the environment for innovation at NITR stems from his experience as part of the above projects. At an institute of national importance focused on science and technology, which is going through rapid waves of both entrepreneurship and technological innovation, Dr. Panda plays a pivotal role in bridging the gaps between both.
His presentation at the national stage is impeccably timed – it brings recognition and visibility to NITR’s humble steps in the direction of creating a seamless blend of technology, innovation and business to solve the problems faced by society. Needless to say, brand NITR just got a serious boost on a nationwide scale.
